Abstract
-Abstract-
We performed an open, non-comparative clinical study prospectively to evaluate the
efficacy and safety of Oxiracetam(Neuromed) in treatment of patients
with stroke. Twenty-one consecutive patients with neurologic and psychic sequelae of
stroke were enrolled in this trial. All patients took 800§· oxiracetam twice daily after
meal during 8 weeks. The evaluating measures included emotional disturbance,
spontaneity, intelligent function, abnormal behavior and sleep disturbance, activity of
daily living, MMSE-K, NHI stroke scale, and clinical and laboratory adverse reactions.
The efficacy of Oxiracetam was evident in all parameters, especially in spontaneity,
activity of daily living, and emotional disturbance. Adverse reactions were observed in 4
patients; pruritus (1), gastrointestinal discomfort (1), and transient increment of
transaminase activity (2). But those were mild and clinically not significant. The present
study shows that Oxiracetam is an effective and safe drug in treating the patients with
the neurologic and psychic sequelae of stroke, especially with psychic symptoms.
